BRAZIL FILM FEST TORONTO 2017

TIFF BELL LIGHTBOX 

The eleventh annual Brazil Film Fest is returning to Toronto’s prestigious TIFF BELL
LIGHTBOX from November 3rd to the 5th. This year’s program features twelve recent
national productions, both fiction and documentaries, never before seen in Toronto,
international film festival winners.

THE OPENING

This year’s opening film “ELIS”, biography, actress Andrea Horta flawlessly portrays
“the pepper”. In addition to being a public success, this film has won several awards at
festivals, including the Gramado Festival and the Brazilian Cinema Festival.
One of this year’s program highlights, “Gabriel and the Mountain”, received an
award at the Cannes Film Festival.

A film selected for the family “Jonas and the Backyard Circus” won more than thirty
international awards: Awarded People’s Choice at the Toulouse Film Festival, the TFI
Arts Fund from the Tribeca Film Institute (NYC), amongst others.

Another highlight, “My Mom is a Character 2” with actor Paulo Gustavo, was a
blockbuster success, seen by 6 million movie-goers in 2017.

JustLikeParents

Lais Bodansky’s new film, “Just Like Our Parents” premiered recently in Brazilian
cinemas and has been viewed by over 300 000 movie-goers. The film is also an
international success and has already premiered in Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands,
and twenty other countries.

“Working with culture today isn’t easy, much less creating a festival, but it’s the right
moment to persevere and I am thrilled to continue the Brazil Film Fest Toronto at the
TIFF Bell Lightbox. Most of the films haven’t yet been screened in Canada and the
festival presents itself as a great opportunity for the public to watch these incredible
films in a unique setting.” Katia Adler, Festival Director Brazil Film Fest began in 2007 with the intent of showcasing the best productions in Brazilian cinematography.

All films will be screened with English subtitles at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
