TIFF Retrospective
By Ingrid Coifman

Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is presenting the retrospective The Other Side: The Film of Roberto Minervini, running this weekend, from June 10 to 12, at Tiff Bell Lightbox. The programme showcases the work of Italian-born, Texas-based filmmaker known for fusing fiction and documentary to create striking portraits of life on the margins in the American South.

Roberto will be introducing the rarely screened film The Margin (A margem, 1967), from Brazilian director Ozualdo R. Candeias. The film, a pioneer in the “docu-fiction” category, creates a contemplative, semi-documentary portrait of four people living on the banks of São Paulo’s Tietê river.

More info: The Margin screens this Friday, June 10th, at 9:15pm, at Tiff Bell Lightbox (350 King St W).
