Woodstock Native wins Mississauga Board of Trade Business Person of the Year at annual Gala
At the Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) Annual Business Excellence Awards Gala, the Business Person of the Year award (2018) was won by Peter Hawkins, Managing Director of MELLOHAWK Logistics and Director of the MELLOHAWK Logistics International Training Center.
Volunteer Mentor to Newcomers
Nominated by Acces Employment, where he is a volunteer Mentor to newcomers to Canada, Peter helps internationally-trained candidates understand the Canadian job market and navigate the unspoken obstacles to getting a job in Canada. A strong advocate for multi-cultural understanding, small business and entrepreneurship, he regularly gives seminars to help Canadians from all walks of life maximize their potential. The nature of Peter’s international logistics company has identified a shortage of Canadian candidates who understand global trade. In fact, Peter is the only person in his company born in Canada.
In order to improve the education outcomes from Canadian-trained schools, he not only sits on professionally advisory committees for post-secondary institutions but he also regularly reaches out to students about the options for an international career. Last December, he was the keynote speaker at the RBC-Schulich Enterprise Forum IV at York University, the annual Global Management Studies Grad Breakfast at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University, and the Centennial College Business School Career Hack event for Global Management Students.
Peter Hawkins is a native of Woodstock, New Brunswick and strongly feels his maritime sense of community should be shared throughout the world. He believes in promoting international trade, strong communication, Education and helping new comers establish their place in Canadian society is the best way to create peace, wealth and dialogue.
Professional Biography:
Peter Hawkins is Managing Director of MELLOHAWK Logistics. A graduate of Dalhousie University, he spent a decade in international sales with McClelland & Stewart Publishers before he co-founded MELLOHAWK with his partner Arnon Melo. He is Vice President of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (BCCC); Chair of the Professional Advisory Committee – International Business Program, Sheridan College; Member of the Peel-Halton Local Employment Planning Council (LEPC); Member of the Peel-Halton Workforce Development Group Central Planning Table (CPT); and Mentor at Acces Employment. Peter has been recognized twice internationally by CONCID, the Brazilian Citizenship Council for leadership in the community of Brazilians living outside of Brazil. He is the 2018 Winner of the Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) Business Person of the Year.
