Cajú celebrates 10 years and continues to provide Torontonians with a “taste” of Brazilian cuisine and culture – making classic Brazilian dishes such as Feijoada, Moqueca, Pao de Quiejo and Caipirinhas mainstream in the vibrant food culture of Toronto.

Over the last 10 years, Caju’s Chef and owner, Mario Cassini’s has introduced Brazilian food and culture to Toronto and has shared his knowledge of the rich history of Brazilian cuisine. Cajú reflects Mario’s passion for his culture, food and heritage which he openly shares with all Torontonians. He has created unique programs to showcase Brazilian cuisine, including “Experience the Flavours of Brazil” media event and promotion in 2007 and “A Culinary Tour of Brazil” in 2011, organized and promoted with the City of Toronto.

Cajú’s Chef and owner, Mario Cassini was born in Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Home to soccer legend Pelé, Pao de Quiejo, and Cachaça, Minas Gerais is known throughout Brazil for its natural minerals and picturesque landscape. It is also known for its cuisine (according to the Oxford Companion to Food, Minas Gerais is known for producing the best chefs and the best cuisine in Brazil) and Belo Horizonte, for its bar culture (cited in the New York Times as having the most bars (Botecos) per capita in the world, with over 12,000 bars in the city).

Named after the red and golden tropical cashew fruit, Cajú’s menu features classic Brazilian dishes prepared with a contemporary touch and menu items inspired by Brazilian flavours and ingredients. Cajú is located in the Queen Street West Art and Design district, steps from the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCCA), in an eclectic neighborhood of art galleries, retail shops and restaurants.
