Unexplored Excavation Sites Near Gwalior


The archaeological excavation sites i.e. Nareshwar, Mitavali, P a d a w a l i , B a t e s h w a r, Kakanmath & Kutwar are unexplored & untouched areas with great potential for international and domestic tourism.

Nareshwar :Oldest temple of Shiva & Parvati which is across the hill. These monuments refer way back from the Mahabharat era to the medieval age.

 

Mitawali :In the north of Naresar and In the east of Padawali, there is Chausath Yogini (64) temples situated on a hundred feet high mountain. It is a wonderful circular construction of 170 feet radius on the style of Delhi's parliament house. Attached to circular verandah there are sixty four rooms and a big courtyard in the temple. In the centre of the temple there is the circular temple of Lord Shiva.

Padawali : It was established in the period of Gupta empire. The ‘Gotra’ of the emperors of the Gupta dynasty was ‘Charan’. Gharon village was inhabited near Padawali. There is a magnificent ancient Vishnu temple which was later converted into a big ‘Ghari’. Inside the temple, thousands of miniature sculptures of mythological origin adorn every nook and corner of the remains. One can spend hours watching the beauty of the individual idols.
Sihoniya (The capital of the Kachhwahas): Kachhwaha kingdom was established between 1015 to 1035 A.D. King Kirtiraj built a “Shiva Temple”. It stands on a spot, two miles away from
Sihoniya, in the north -west of District Morena. This Kakanmath Temple was built by King Kirtiraj to fulfill the will of queen Kakanawati. It is 115 ft. High.
Sihoniya is 85km from Gwalior via Morena. Here you will find also rare species of birds due to its proximity to the River Chambal which is famous for its beauty and bird sanctuary.
